Born in Philadelphia in 1964, but raised in a mid-west suburb of Chicago, Mark Hix made his way to the downtown lofts of Los Angeles by the end of the 1990’s. The early years involved many jobs in the construction field as well as some time as a scenic painter. At the age of 27, a serious, self taught study in art began to arise, and within a few years it had become a full-time vocation. Plaster, burlap and found objects are the favored materials used in the sculptural paintings on wood panel. Works on canvas have focused mostly on portraits of literary icons, social rebels, and counterculture heroes.

Billy Hix also has work featured here. His prolific output of small acrylic paintings are impressive. Born in 1962, Billy would have an accident at 18 that would lead to years of personal struggle. Eventually, manifesting in an explosion of color, twisted forms and abstract perspectives.
